The heart of my approach to the treatment of life problems such as stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues is that our underlying nature (call it self, presence, or awareness etc.,) is essentially without stress and that by knowing our underlying nature directly and consciously our problems can be overcome at their source. ‘Underlying nature’ here refers to how we immediately know when something is wrong. Just as physical illness is known relative to health, we only ‘have a problem’ relative to this inner measure that is problem-free. That measure is what we are. We can know this and live from it.

To clarify our problems in the light of our true nature creates an opportunity to see the cause of our problems at their root source, i.e., false beliefs and assumptions that we unknowingly hold about ourselves and others. This is very empowering. Our efforts are redirected from merely trying to solve a problem externally to engaging in the inner process of dissolving our identification with harmful beliefs and assumptions that veil and distort the experience of our true nature.

This is the basis of many psychological, religious, and spiritual traditions. It is the inspiration behind mindfulness-based techniques that help a person see false beliefs and assumptions needn’t be struggled with but only need to be recognized as false. The negative physiological and psychological symptoms associated with these beliefs are weakened in the light of this new conscious awareness. Conscious awareness of this kind has the power to affect all areas of our life.

In my practice I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Short-Term Therapy, and also incorporate Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Insight Oriented Psychotherapy.

My expertise is helping people identify the true causes of their perceived difficulties and helping them integrate this new awareness into their everyday life.

Occasionally medication and alternative health treatments are useful in conjunction with therapy to reduce acute and chronic symptoms. If this is something you feel you need or want to explore, I consult with a psychiatrist and alternative medicine practitioners.
